HEY iSURV1VOR!
My apologies that it took my until now to get my first confessional up, but overall, the start of the game has been pretty quiet for me so far. That's how I want it to be anyway.
First, I want to cover the basics of my strategy for this game. As I said in my application, I am definitely a mix of the typical "nice guy" or "hero" type player, and the cutthroat or "Do what it takes to get to the end" type player. It is very difficult for me to vote people off because I do get connected to the friends I make here, but this is Survivor, and we are here to play a game. I don't like the super devious people who lie and backstab unnecessarily. People like Russell from Survivor: Samoa are always my nemesis when I play. I want to perform well so it proves the "protagonist" can conquer the villain in this game, so I will do everything I can to stay focused, make the best alliances, and think carefully before making tough decisions.
This game began with only 13 of us, but we are all on one tribe. It almost feels like we're just starting off at the merge. Personally, in my past experiences, the tribal stages of the game have been much harder to survive in than the merge. I play a lot better indiviudally because I often become pinned as a target on my tribe for being too strong in challenges, or too much of a social threat. Since we are all playing individually from the start (or at least that's what we think right now...) I think I'll be able to take that "middle of the road" role pretty easily. I have had a busy first weekend, so I haven't had too much time to meet everyone and get to know people yet, but that's probably a blessing in disguise. The worst thing anyone can do is come off super strong and aggressive at the start. It will give everyone else a reason to send them packing at the first tribal council.
So, as I sort of hinted at, I plan to "lay low" for the first two or three rounds and let everyone else start attacking each other. I LOVE that the only person who knows me before the game is Erin because people can't really know that I'm totally the opposite of an "under the radar" player. If the others draw the battle lines, I can just turn into a swing vote, and there will be no target on my back. In the mean time, I secretly hope to get involved with some strong alliances right away. I plan on sticking to my true, original alliance, unless that group ultimately betrays me first. So far, the only person I trust 100% is Erin. Having pairs in the game is really interesting and it will shake things up a lot. I don't think Erin and I will stand out as a threat if we try to remain friendly and casual with everyone. I do plan on building my alliance around me/Erin because there's no way I want her out of the game. I've already received one offer from Taylor to get a me-him-Erin-Megan thing going, but I want to wait till I get a better feel on Taylor before agreeing to anything. I'll get into all the more when I go through each other player one by one... I want to speak to everyone before discussing that. =P
So, the key points to my strategy right now are...
- Lay low and don't stand out for the first 2 or 3 rounds.
- Form a tight, but private alliance fairly soon.
- Work with Erin.
- Later on, make bold moves that stand out to prove I am a deserving winner (rather than a floater) in case I have to face the jury and defend myself in the finals.
Of course, my strategy will change with the context of each round of the game, but staying cool and casual now is absolutely vital to my chances at sticking around for a while. That's all I got for now... lots more to come soon!
For now, let's see this challenge and kick some ass!
